WEATHERSTRIPPING INSTALLATION GUIDE

Tech Tips – Weatherstrip Installation Guide

Glass Run Channel

There are two types of glass run channels: single-piece and two-piece. The style depends on your vehicle’s year, make, and model.

  • Single-piece design – One continuous channel that runs up the rear of the door glass, across the top, and down the front.
  • Two-piece design – Includes an upper channel (running up the rear and across the top) and a division post run that fits vertically along the vent window post.

Installation:

  1. Remove the door panel and old weatherstrip.
  2. Lubricate the new part with soap and water.
  3. If your vehicle has a vent window, disconnect (but don’t remove) the vent assembly.
  4. Align the corners of the new weatherstrip with the door frame, then slide it down inside the door and across the top. Ensure the strip seats properly in the channel and the glass moves freely.
  5. Reattach the vent assembly and door panel. (Some models also require removing and reinstalling the side-view mirror.)

Beltline Weatherstrip

Each door uses an inner and outer beltline weatherstrip:

  • Outer beltline attaches to the door with clips, rivets, or by pressing onto the flange.
  • Inner beltline attaches to the door panel, usually with clips or staples.

Installation:

  1. Remove the door panel and old weatherstrips.
  2. Install the outer beltline first, carefully align bends with the door frame. Once installed, it cannot be removed without damage.
  3. Press clips into the door frame slots to secure.
  4. Install the inner beltline to the door panel using the original method, then reinstall the panel.
(If replacing a glass run channel, install the beltlines afterward. Some vehicles may require removal and reinstallation of the side-view mirror.)

Door Weatherstrip

There are three main types: Glue-On, Press-On, and Clip-On.

Always dry fit your seals to ensure you have the correct seals for your application
(Some vehicles may require loosening or removing interior trim panels for access.)

  • Glue-On Seals – Installed with weatherstrip adhesive (e.g., Permatex). They may run the entire door frame, the upper frame, or the cab opening.
  • Press-On Seals – Feature a stiff channel that presses directly over the cab flange, holding securely without clips or adhesive.
  • Clip-On Seals – Snap into place on the door. Test-fit first to ensure clip alignment, then press into the openings. For added strength, apply a small amount of adhesive between clips.

Vent Window Seal (Most Difficult)

Vent seals come in two styles:

  • Single-piece – A triangular seal that wraps completely around the vent glass.
  • Two-piece – Includes an “L” shaped vent seal plus a separate division post seal.

Installation:

  1. Loosen the door glass and remove the vent frame assembly.
  2. Disassemble the vent frame (removing bolts, springs, screws, and rivets).
  3. Remove the glass and old seal.
  4. Lubricate the new seal with soap and water or Precision’s Weatherstrip Lubricant.
  5. Slide the seal into the vent frame channel.
    • Single-piece design: Press the division post section into the post channel.
    • Two-piece design: Install the division post seal onto the post before reassembling the vent frame.
  6. Reassemble the vent frame, reinstall it in the door, and tighten the door glass.
